Known to the world as “The Sleeping Prophet”, Edgar Cayce was born on a farm near Hopkinsville, Kentucky in the year 1877.  He followed the Christian pantheon and was a lifelong student of the Bible.

Edgar became aware of his prophetic gift one night at the age of six when he was struggling to memorise his spellings.  He had been practicing for hours and getting nowhere.  Finally tiredness took him and he put his spelling book underneath his head and nodded off to sleep.  When he awoke he found that not only did he know all of his spellings but he could cite the exact page and line that every single word was listed on.  From that night on he used his gift for studying and went to the top of his class.

Believing that having a photographic memory was the extent of his gift, Edgar never bothered trying it on anything else.  This quickly changed when at the age of 20 he lost his voice for no apparent reason and it wouldn’t come back.  The doctors of the time were mystified.  Regardless of what they tried, they simply couldn’t figure out the cause or the cure for Edgar’s loss of voice. Edward suffered for a year until as a last resort he decided to try an alternative therapy.  His alternative of choice was hypnotism.

The hypnotist had Edward lay back on his couch and enter a trance state.  Once he was in a deep trance the hypnotist asked Edward what he was suffering from.  In a voice that sounded nothing like his normal voice he replied, “I am suffering paralysis of the vocal cords brought on by nerve strain.” And then, in that same alien voice, he went on to prescribe his cure.  When Edgar was brought out of the trance and told what he’d said, he put two and two together.  He knew this was no different from learning his spellings when he was a boy.  From that time on he realised that he could get the answer to anything by entering a trance state, going into the cosmic library, retrieving the answer, and having someone record his answers.

Soon after he cured himself, Edgar found that he could do the same for other people.  When someone came to him for help, he would enter his sleep state and answer any questions that were put to him.  Needless to say, word of him spread like wildfire and people from all over came with a multitude of problems to be solved by the sleeping prophet.

By the time he passed away in the year 1945, Edgar Case had completed over 14,000 readings.
